Neurosciences

Neuroscience majorly covers two areas, Brain and the rest of neurological pathways. Now considering brain the source of everything, huge amount of research is going on brain. Again, the brain study can be separated in two domains. One is overall mental and cognitive health, including memory, perception and voluntary movements. Another domain deals with Neurodegenerative diseases. It affects millions of people worldwide; it is a major concern of public health. Department of Neurosciences mainly focus on neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s diseases. Although modern treatments may help relieve some of the physical or mental symptoms associated with neurodegenerative diseases, there is still high disease progression and no known cures. Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease are the most common neurodegenerative diseases. This situation creates a critical need to improve our understanding of what causes neurodegenerative diseases and develop new approaches for treatment and prevention.

Why I3T Focuses on that:

The International Institute of Innovation and Technology (I3T), being a public health Institution want to focus on improvement of the overall public health of our society in partnership with the John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health which is a leading Institute of Public Health. Neuroscience is a multidisciplinary science comprises the cellular and molecular biology, physiology and pharmacology of the nervous system, as well as behavioral and cognitive neuroscience.

Special attention will be given on the area of Neurophysiology especially to understand the molecular mechanisms / pathways involved in the neurodegeneration induced pathophysiology both in animal cell lines as well as using animal experimental models.

Major research thrust areas:
  • Pathophysiological models of different neurodegenerative diseases both animal cell lines and in vivo experimental animal models. Development of new models and approaches to study both the genetic and environmental risk factors of neurodegenerative disease.
  • Finding the biomarkers, neuroinflammation and molecular mechanism in association with neurodegenerative diseases aiming to develop approaches to prevent, diagnose and treat the disease.
  • Genetics and molecular mechanism of Neurodegenerative diseases. The cross talk between the genetic associations, genetic susceptibility and contribution of developing neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Innovative strategies will be investigated to develop the novel therapeutic intervention ameliorating neurodegeneration, targeting to reduction of a societal health burden.
  • Behavioral & Cognitive studies in animals
