Virology is the branch of microbiology that deals with the study of viruses (as well as various virus-like particles), their characteristics, classification, as well as the relationship with their respective hosts.
Why I3T Focuses on that:
I3T is a public health institution and wants to spread the outreach so that we will work on all public health issues in a single roof. I3T has advanced instruments, experts and research scientists. We are willing to work on Infectious, communicable and non-communicable diseases such as Dengue, Malaria, Hepatitis, Cancer, Diabetes and Virology.
Some of the viruses like Dengue, Chikungunya, Nipah, Influenza, Hanta-, SARS Corona-, Japanese Encephalitis Virus and many more to name have been emerge/re-emerging from India since last few decades. In India, establishment has been strategically built-up, following WHO guidelines, to monitor commencement of viral diseases and to assess subsequent countermeasures (e.g. Integrated Disease Surveillance Project implemented at National Centre for Disease Control, New Delhi).
However, the scope is still huge in the field in aspect of identification of newly emerging viruses, outbreak management, disease-defense mechanism and to innovate new tactic over existing conventional.
At I3T Virology department, we are aiming to focus on these objectives along with a translational perspective to enrich public health. We majorly focus on development of vaccines. Moreover, we will work to develop novel virus-based drug-delivery system, i.e. utilizing the so-called ‘pathogen’ as a therapeutic maneuver.
