DUBLIN and CHENNAI, India<\/a>: Medtronic<\/a> and Apollo Hospitals Group announced the conduction of the first clinical procedure in the Asia-Pacific region with the Hugo<\/a>\u2122 robotic-assisted surgery (RAS) system. The robotic prostatectomy was performed on September 17 by Dr. N Ragavan, consultant urologist, uro-oncologist and robotic surgeon from the Apollo Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHere in India, nearly 70% of surgeries are performed as open procedures\u2014 we feel confident that the Hugo RAS system<\/a> will enable us to change that statistic and bring the benefits of minimally invasive surgery to more patients than ever before, I am incredibly proud to launch this new era of possibility for our hospital and the patients we serve with the very first clinical procedure in the region with the system,\u201d said Dr. Ragavan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hugo RAS system is a modular, multi-quadrant platform designed for a broad range of soft-tissue procedures. For the RAS system, Medtronics has combined wristed instruments, 3D visualization, and Touch Surgery\u2122 Enterprise, a cloud-based surgical video capture and management solution to build up a system that can assist in performing surgeries with fewer complications and reduced time spent in hospital after surgery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
