In an interaction with ETHealthworld, Hasmukh Rawal<\/a><\/strong>, promoter and managing director of Pune-based Mylab Discovery Solutions<\/a><\/strong>, talks about the company\u2019s expansion plans and preparedness towards the Covid-19 third wave<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: With speculations of the third Covid-wave, how is MyLabs preparing towards increasing the testing capacities?<\/strong>
Hasmukh Rawal:<\/strong> We are very well prepared for the third wave. India can be rest assured that now testing will not be a roadblock. We have the capacity to produce up to one crore self-tests per week. Additionally, we can make 10 lakh RT-PCR<\/a> and 30 lakh antigen test per week. Translating that to monthly figures, India can be rest assured of tackling testing of 5-6 crore tests just from Mylab. It can be increased to three-fold within a month if needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, our tests can be accessed in remote areas be it villages, hilly areas, tribal areas. We have already delivered more than 30 high throughput molecular (RT-PCR) mobile labs most of which are stationed in remote areas \u2013 where a confirmatory test is just not available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: What are the other diagnostic products the company is looking at for expansion?<\/strong>
Hasmukh Rawal: <\/strong>Our focus is on COVID, HIV, HBV and HCV. For us, the next battles that India needs to win are of TB and cancer diagnostics<\/a>. TB kills more people every year than Covid did in two waves. This has to change, and we are creating kits that can detect multiple TB variants and drug resistance with widest coverage. Also, an issue that we are addressing in TB is of a complete solution. We will soon be talking about it more as we launch them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In cancer, the cost of diagnostics is very high. We are planning to make tests which can reduce this cost. Expanding our R&D and manufacturing capabilities in Pune. We aim to build a complete ecosystem around diagnostics be it cancer markers, genetic markers and fertility markers. So, we are increasing our focus on these kinds of tests which include molecular diagnostics, serology, immunology etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: What prompted Mylab to focus on oncology?<\/strong>
Hasmukh Rawal: <\/strong>Cancer is a leading cause of death. Its seen as the biggest enemy going forward so detecting it early, would be the first stage where you will be able to save lives. Hitting the benchmark in cancer diagnostics is something we are very much keen on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cancer needs to be detected very early and it is not possible to do the biopsies every time. Diagnoses of blood at the right time is very important. Right now we are working on an innovation that removes the burden of expertise out of the lab and develop a high-end test in which everything is automated. This will make the diagnosis of cancer easier for the labs and affordable for the patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: How has been the International market’s response towards Mylab products?<\/strong>
Hasmukh Rawal: <\/strong>Our products’ presence in the international market is exceptional be it PathoDetect Kit for Covid and Compact XL machines. The independent evaluation of our products by testing agencies found our product to be at par or better than the US or European approved products. Also, the price point are attractive for the quality we are planning to deliver. Right now we are evaluating partnerships in the US, Europe, and African countries and we are getting traction.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
