Ganguly Nirmal

Prof. Nirmal Ganguly - Director General

Prof. Nirmal Ganguly is the Director General of International Institute of Innovation and Technology (I3TK) and is a pioneer microbiologist specializing in tropical diseases, cardiovascular diseases and diarrhoea. Recipient of the prestigious Civilian Award, Padma Bhushan in 2009 for his achievements, Prof. Ganguly is a graduate of R. G. Kar Medical College, Kolkata. He completed his MD in Microbiology from the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research and had the opportunity to serve in the same institution as Acting Director.

Professor Nirmal Ganguly has been the Professor Emeritus of Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research and was Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi from 1998 to 2007. An elected fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, he is currently President of the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER).

Virander Singh Chauhan

Dr. Virander Singh Chauhan

Dr. Virander Singh Chauhan is a Rhodes Scholar and Scientist, working at International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) in the fields of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology. He is known for his contributions to the development of a recombinant vaccine for malaria. He completed both his graduation and post-graduation in Chemistry from University of Delhi. He has been awarded with Rhodes Scholarship from University of Oxford for his doctoral study. Dr. Chauhan then worked as post-doctoral fellow at University of Georgia.

Before the doctoral program, Dr. Chauhan worked as a faculty member in Stephen’s College, and continued to do that after completion of Ph.D. Later, he worked with IIT, Kanpur as an Assistant Professor till 1982. Before joining ICGEB in 1988, he continued his work in his alma mater University of Delhi as a professor. He is a pioneer in the Research of Drug Development.

His team has developed the first Recombinant Vaccine in India. His research on drugs of malaria involving artemisinin and chloroquine is also very significant. His other works helped in treatment of HIV and diabetes. He received Dr. MOT Iyenger Memorial Award from Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and he is a fellow of Academy of Sciences for Developing World (TWAS). In 2012, he has been awarded fourth highest Civilian Award Padma Shri, from Government of India.

Prof Dr Dhrubajyoti

Prof. (Dr.) Dhrubajyoti Chattopadhyay

Prof. (Dr.) Dhrubajyoti Chattopadhyay, currently the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Sister Nivedita University, Kolkata and former Pro-Vice Chancellor of University of Calcutta is an eminent scientist of international repute. Professor Chattopadhyay graduated as a Bachelor of Science from the Presidency College, Kolkata in 1973 with a major in Chemistry. He did his Masters in Science in Biochemistry in 1975 and completed his Ph.D. in 1984 from Department of Biochemistry at Bose Institute, Calcutta.

Prof. Chattopadhyay was the Dean, Faculty of Science at University of Calcutta from 2003 to 2007 and was the Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University from 2008 till 2015. He was also the Director at the Centre for Research in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology at the University during 2007 – 2015. He has received numerous awards, accolades and distinctions in his career and is also the recipient of the prestigious UNESCO-IUMS-MIRCENS-SGM fellowship at the University of Texas. He was also the Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences and Fellow of West Bengal Academy of Science and Technology. With a teaching experience of more than 35 years, Professor Chattopadhyay has around 102 research papers and 6 book chapters to his credit till date. He is an eminent scientist and academic par excellence with an established track record of innovative ideas and in-depth research activities.

Utpal Dutta

Dr. Utpal Kumar Dutta - Chairman, Medical Research Advisory Committee

Dr. Utpal Kumar Dutta is currently working as professor in physiology in KPC Medical College & Hospital, The KPC Group, Kolkata. After completing Premedical from Presidency University, he received his MBBS degree from Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata in 1975. Dr. Dutta got his Doctor of Medicine Degree in Physiology, General from IMS, BHU in 1983. Starting from 1984 to 1994, he pursued his Ph.D. study in the same field.

Dr. Dutta started his duty life as a Principal of North Bengal Medical College, Darjeeling and continued till 2004. After that, he was appointed as Principal of R.G Kar Medical College. After completing the period of 05 years, he joined Medical College, Kolkata as Principal. During the period, Dr. Dutta worked as special secretary in MES as well. From December, 2018, he continued his journey as Professor in KPC Medical College. He is very renowned and respected across the country for his contribution.
